RAWALPINDI: As many as 214 traffic wardens were awarded departmental punishments, three others dismissed from service for corruption and 1,023 were given appreciation letters for their outstanding performance in the last 45 days.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam said the process of accountability as well as rewards continued in the department.
The CTO said departmental punishments had been given for corruption, lack of interest in duty and negligence. “Dutiful and hardworking officers and wardens are my pride and the pride of the police department,” he said.
Hardworking and honest young traffic wardens will be encouraged on every platform, while strict action will continue against those who are corrupt, irresponsible and cause disrepute.
All wardens should perform their duties without any pressure and with a spirit of hard work and service. Encouraging the youth further enhances their overall performance, the CTO said.
Meanwhile, the Pirwadhai police made a significant progress in the investigation of the much published honour killing case. Another suspect, who concealed the receipt of grave of the victim and had been declared a proclaimed offender, has been arrested.
Earlier, the police had arrested 17 suspects, including the deceased’s father, uncle, six brothers, head of the jirga and his brother, the secretary of the cemetery, a gravedigger, ex-husband, rickshaw and car drivers.
According to initial reports, a jirga, comprising the deceased woman’s family members and former in-laws, was convened and it was decided that the woman, having eloped, did not deserve to live.
