After a late-night study session on long winter nights, treating yourself to a warm dessert is the perfect way to recharge before winding down for the night. When the house is quiet and everyone else is asleep, a small homemade treat can feel extra comforting.

This easy chocolate orange mug cake recipe is the perfect treat for the cold season. The rich chocolate flavour paired with a hint of citrus makes it feel special, even though it takes very little effort to prepare. Using only simple ingredients and a microwave for baking, it’s ready in minutes and requires minimal clean-up.

The single portion size is perfect when you’re craving something sweet, but don’t want to bake an entire cake.

Ingredients:

• 4 tablespoons flour

• 2 tablespoons cocoa powder

• ¼ teaspoon baking powder

• 2 tablespoons sugar

• 1 egg

• 2 tablespoons orange juice

• 2 tablespoons oil

Method:

In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and sugar.

Pour in the egg, orange juice and oil, and stir well to make sure there are no lumps and the batter is smooth. Microwave for 2 minutes.

Garnish with orange zest and enjoy your warm mug cake straight from the cup.
