KARACHI, June 10: The Sindh governor’s order for the early closure of markets and shops in Karachi is a result of KESC-Muttahida nexus and amounts to economic murder of Karachiites.

This was stated by MNA Maulana Asadullah Bhutto, Sindh chief of the Muttahida-Majlis-i-Amal and Naib Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami, while addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Saturday.

“The decision is acceptable neither to traders and other citizens, nor to us,” he declared. He said that instead of improving the power supply situation, the MQM governor ordered early closure of business activities which was condemnable. “We will strongly resist such ridiculous decisions,” he said.

MPAs Nasrullah Shaji and Younus Barai were present at the press conference along with Maulana Bhutto’s Coordinator Syed Qutub Ahmed.

They told newsmen that electricity was a federal subject and if the provincial government was really interested in providing relief to masses in this regard, it was for the provincial chief executive to take notice of the crisis. Instead, he added, the governor resorted to intervene in the matter to protect the KESC.

He pointed out that most people would visit markets in the evening because of the intense heat and being at work during the day time. They would be affected by the closure of business after sunset, he maintained.

He said that the MMA, traders and businessman community would soon come out with a joint course of action in this regard.

Meanwhile, the Sunni Tehrik has also criticised the early closure of business activities.
