Tanveer, Aamir excel

LAHORE, June 9: Tanveer Gillani and Aamir Karim won a gold and silver medal in the 37th Chess Olympiad in Turin, Italy, according to information received on Friday.

Tanveer, the National Master from Wapda earned seven points from eight games to top the Board 1.

He won six matches and drew the remaining two.

Aamir claimed a silver medal coming in second at Board 5.

In all, six players from Pakistan competed as a team but they failed to take any position. However, Tanveer and Aamir excelled individually.

The other four players were Mahmood Lodhi, Zohaib Hasan, Mohammad Younis and Dr. Nadeeem.
