KARACHI, Oct 17: Two more Edhi Foundation trucks carrying 24 tons of food and relief goods for the people of Afghanistan were sent to Chaman, Balochistan, on Wednesday. Besides, three ambulances were also dispatched to the border town.

Noted social worker and founder of the Edhi Foundation, Abdul Sattar Edhi, wife Bilquis Edhi and a volunteer nursing team also left for Quetta on Wednesday morning to supervize relief work at Chaman bordering Qandahar in Afghanistan, where a considerable number of Afghan refugees are present.

According to the Edhi Foundation, efforts were being made to establish contacts with the Taliban government to seek permission to enter the war-stricken country and provide food, medicines and relief goods to the people of famine-hit areas.

“If I am not allowed to enter Afghanistan, I will hand over relief items to the concerned authorities,” he added.

An Edhi spokesman said two trucks loaded with 2,400 blankets, 20 wheelchairs, 100 crutches, 20 small and six big tents, woollen clothes, medicines and food items, costing about Rs600,000, along with three ambulances were dispatched to Quetta for their onward journey.
