KARACHI: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) continued their impressive run in the President’s Cup, notching up a sixth successive victory with a three-wicket win over Sahir Associates at the UBL Sports Complex here on Thursday.
In the other sixth-round fixture of the day, Ghani Glass defeated Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) at the KCCA Stadium.
Chasing 279, OGDCL reached the target with 27 balls to spare, thanks largely to an unbeaten 55 from Danish Aziz (59 balls, five fours and a six). Danish added a decisive 65 runs for the sixth wicket with Umar Siddiq, whose brisk 40 off 33 balls (five fours and a six) shifted the momentum firmly in OGDCL’s favour.
Earlier, opener Maaz Sadaqat provided a flying start, smashing 11 fours in a 30-ball 50 as he put on 47 runs with Imam-ul-Haq, who managed 11. After Maaz’s dismissal, Abbas Ali (68 off 63) and Raja Hamza Waheed (40) added 64 for the third wicket to lay the foundation for the chase.
For Sahir Associates, Faham-ul-Haq returned figures of two for 20 from six overs, including two maidens.
Batting first, Sahir Associates were well placed at 148-1 before a dramatic collapse saw them slump to 117-8, eventually finishing on 278-9 in their allotted 50 overs.
Captain Asim Ali Nasir and Faham had earlier shared a 143-run stand for the second wicket after Fahad Usman was dismissed for a 15-ball duck by Mohammad Huzaifa, who was later named player of the match.
Asim struck 88 off 97 balls with 13 fours, while Faham made 60 from 78 deliveries, hitting six fours and a six. Late contributions from Mohammad Afzal (30 of 21 balls), Khawaja Mohammad Abdullah (26 off 17) and Mohammad Faiq (24 off 25) kept the scoreboard moving, but Sahir Associates failed to fully capitalise on the strong platform.
For OGDCL, Huzaifa finished with figures of 4-57 from 10 overs, including a maiden, while skipper Adil Amin claimed two wickets.
At the KCCA Stadium, Zafar Gohar produced a devastating spell for Ghani Glass, claiming six for 21 in 10 overs — including two maidens — as KRL were bowled out for 165 in 41.2 overs, falling 35 runs short of the target.
KRL suffered a remarkable collapse, losing all 10 wickets for just 42 runs after openers Shahzaib Khan (52 off 72) and Saad Baig (45 off 52) had put on 107 for the first wicket.
Apart from Zafar’s career-best List A figures, Noman Ali took two wickets, while Mohammad Rameez Jr and Ubaid Shah chipped in with one apiece.
Ghani Glass, however, endured a collapse of their own, slumping from 102-1 to 200 all out after opting to bat first. Following the early loss of Yahya Bin Abdul Rehman, Sharjeel Khan (58 off 48) and Mohsin Riaz (32 off 39) added 85 runs.
Tayyab Tahir (33 off 42), Hussain Talat (26 off 35) and Hammad Butt (20 off 48) made useful starts but failed to convert them into substantial scores.
For KRL, left-arm wrist-spinner Sufyan Moqim recorded the best figures of his List A career with four for 22 in 8.1 overs. He was well supported by pacers Ahmed Bashir and Arshad Iqbal, who took two wickets each.
