ISLAMABAD: Political leaders remembered and paid tribute to innocent students and teachers who were martyred in the attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar on Dec 16, 2014.

On the eve of the anniversary of the APS attack, one of the most painful and unforgettable incidents of the country’s history, they praised patience, strength and resilience of the bereaved families and said the courage of these families in the face of immense loss is a source of inspiration for the entire country.

The sacrifices of innocent students and teachers who were martyred in the horrific incident can never be forgotten, they said and vowed that terrorism would be eliminated.

Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said the barbaric act of terrorism on Dec 16 not only shook the conscience of the nation but also strengthened the collective resolve of the nation to stand united against acts of terrorism and extremism. He said sacrifices of the APS martyrs became a symbol of national unity, courage and unwavering determination to eliminate terrorism in all its forms. He said the parliament remains committed to supporting strong and effective legislation to counter terrorism and ensure lasting peace and security in the country.

He said Dec 16 is not only a day of remembrance but also a day of renewed national resolve to safeguard future generations and ensure a peaceful and secure Pakistan.

Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, in his message, said martyrs of APS Peshawar laid down their lives for knowledge, peace and humanity, strengthening the nation’s resolve, unity and courage against terrorism. He said despite the passage of years, the pain of this tragedy remains fresh in the hearts of every Pakistani and the nation continues to feel these wounds deeply.

Mr Gillani said the APS tragedy made it clear that national unity, mutual harmony and collective struggle are indispensable for success in the fight against terrorism. He said that even today, hostile elements are making nefarious attempts to undermine peace in the country, but their conspiracies are being foiled.

Deputy Chairman of Senate Syedal Khan paid tribute to APS martyrs and expressed deep grief over the loss of innocent children and teachers, noting that their sacrifices for knowledge, peace, and humanity continue to inspire the nation.

He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs, emphasising that the nation remains united with them and it is committed to fulfilling the promises made in their honour. Deputy Speaker of National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah said that sacrifices of innocent students, teachers, and armed forces would always be remembered with honour and respect.
