ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has reappointed Allama Dr Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi as the chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) on the recommendation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The appointment has been made under the Article 228 of the Constitution.

According to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, Dr Raghib Hussain Naeemi has been appointed as a member of the council for a three-year term, after which the president has designated him as chairman.

The position had fallen vacant on November 1, 2025, when Dr Naeemi and eight other council members completed their three-year tenure and retired.

Dr Naeemi had been serving as acting chairman of the CII for over a month. With this new appointment, he will now serve as chairman for the next three years.

The CII has a maximum strength of 20 members; however, seven positions — including those for two judges and one female scholar — still remain vacant.
