KARACHI: Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has said that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will install 20 reverse-osmosis (RO) plants in different villages of the metropolis.

He said this while speaking to the media after formally inaugurating a solar-powered water treatment plant in Gadap Town’s Darya Khan Gabol Goth.

He said: “This plant will purify underground water using modern technology, making it safe and useable, which will ensure a continuous, reliable, and high-quality supply of clean water to residential areas.”

He said that this is the first RO plant in Gadap that will ensure doorstep water delivery to residents, which has now been made operational. He said that not only is water being supplied around the RO plant, but 15 water lines have also been installed across various streets in the villages to ensure reliable delivery of clean water.

The mayor said that the solar-powered RO plant consumes low energy, is cost-effective, and provides a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution, which will serve thousands of residents in the area. He mentioned that an RO plant had also been established in the Grex area of Kemari, and now similar projects are being launched in other suburban areas to ensure uniform facilities across the city.

He said that the filtration system used in this project has been designed according to the latest global environmental standards, which will improve water quality and help eliminate various contaminants.

Barrister Wahab said that this project will play a vital role in protecting citizens’ health, safeguarding the environment, and ensuring the availability of clean water.

He emphasised that efficient use of water, prevention of wastage, and development of modern infrastructure are among the top priorities of the KMC.

The mayor concluded by saying that ongoing development projects are transforming Karachi into a modern, sustainable, and environmentally friendly city. “Providing facilities according to public needs is our primary responsibility, and we are working with full commitment to achieve this mission.”
