PESHAWAR: Two militants were killed in a gunfight with the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Mardan on Thursday night, officials said.
The incident occurred when the CTD’s SWAT team was conducting a “targeted operation” in the Kanda Pul area of Mardan district and tried to stop two men on a motorcycle, a statement by the department said.
The suspects opened fire on the officers, who “narrowly escaped” harm, prompting the team to return fire, killing both assailants.
The deceased were later identified as Noman, known by the aliases Murad and Ghaznavi, and Sohail, also called Charsi.
According to the Counter Terrorism Department, they were implicated in the murders of Head Constable Amjad, Constable Iqrar Syed, and a bystander named Ehtesham.
Additional charges of murder and attempted murder were also filed against them.
Following the exchange of fire, authorities recovered a motorcycle, two pistols with ammunition, and a mobile phone from the scene, the statement said.
