LAHORE: Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) on Wednesday conducted cleaning operations on over 40 major roads to ensure a waste-free city.

According to a press release, a specialised cleaning operation encompassing scraping, washing, sprinkling and other anti-dust measures, was carried out on 40 major roads of the city, including Ferozepur Road, Hali Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Noor Jahan Road, Mall Road, Sagiyan Road, Taj Company Road, Shahdara Chowk, GT Road, Truck Adda and Lorry Adda.

Scraping and sprinkling operations are underway on Circular Road, Aik Moria Pull, Railway Station, Shalimar Gardens, Bhogiwal Road, Daroghawala, and Salamatpura.

Similarly, scraping activities are underway on Mominpura Bhini Road, in Dharampura, Harbanspura and Rehmanpura.

Furthermore, LWMC sanitation squads are busy in anti-dust activities on key routes, such as Maulana Shaukat Ali Road, Peco Road, Allah Hoo Chowk, College Road, Bagrian Chowk, Kacha Jail Road, Madar-e-Millat Road, Multan Road, Thokar Chowk, MAO College Chowk, Chauburji and Azadi Chowk.

LWMC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Babar Sahib Din says the door-to-door waste collection process has been launched and 10 rickshaws will be deployed in each union council for waste collection.

He urged people to take preventive measures against air pollution, including disposing garbage properly and using designated trash bins for the purpose.

ENCROACHMENTS: The district administration, along with the Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (Pera) Force, and the regulation wing of the Metropolitan Corporation of Lahore (LMC), carried out mega operations to make the city encroachment-free.

During the last 24 hours, the drive resulted in the clearance of 1,024 encroachments. Simultaneously, 2,395 banners and flexes were removed from various areas of the city.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Syed Musa Raza says that every obstruction hindering the traffic flow will be removed immediately and this campaign will continue on a daily basis until the elimination of encroachments.

He instructed the teams to complete the operations in an impartial and transparent manner because no one is above the law.

The district administration ordered the departments concerned to ensure cooperation in the anti-encroachment drive.
