ISLAMABAD: While the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested an official of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) for his alleged involvement in a medical college admissions scam, the PMDC claimed that the official, a driver, cannot be involved in such an illegal activity.

Moreover, it said PMDC had also nothing to do with admissions as these were done by universities.

In an official statement, the council rejected reports alleging the arrest of an official in connection with the admission scam.

It said the individual apprehended by the FIA was a driver named Sadam Hussain performing general pool duty at the council, a low-ranked support staff member with no access to any operational section or decision-making process.

“He was neither posted in nor had any role related to admissions, registration, or policy matters. His access was limited strictly to general driving duties,” the statement explained.

“However, upon receiving complaints about the alleged misconduct, an internal inquiry was initiated at the departmental level.” The employee was suspended from service for misconduct and his salary was stopped in accordance with departmental procedures.

“PMDC has a strict zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, fraud and any misuse of authority,” the statement read. “The council acted swiftly and responsibly upon learning of the matter, ensuring internal accountability and extending full support to the investigating agency.”

The PMDC reiterated that it had no role in the national admission process for medical and dental colleges, as admissions fall purely under the prerogative of the provincial admitting universities.

“The council regularly advises students and parents to avoid dealing with any unauthorised individuals or intermediaries and to rely solely on official PMDC communication channels and platforms for admission-related information and guidance,” the statement added.
