KARACHI, Oct 17: A seven-acre plot (No ST-7), in North Nazimabad’s Block L, has been heavily encroached upon and the Sindh Ombudsman’s order for removing such encroachments has not yet been complied with by the concerned authorities.

The office bearers of the KCCA-affiliated Eastern Star Cricket Club, who had been using the plot for the last 23 years for cricket matches, said that although the provincial Ombudsman, through a judgement passed on Oct 14, 2000, had ordered the then director of the defunct KMC’s land department to take action against the encroachers and report compliance to his secretariat within a month, the concerned officials have not taken any such action in this regard.

They claimed that the plot had been heavily encroached upon by the land mafia and said that at present two godowns, one wooden factory and a garage illegally exist on it. Their efforts in getting these encroachments removed have, so far, failed to yield any positive results.

Through a letter addressed to the City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan, the office bearers of the club have appealed to him to get the encroachments immediately removed from the plot.

Meanwhile, official sources said that the plot was reserved for a public school in the approved KDA layout plan and as such present use of the plot in contravention of the approved plan was illegal.
