KARACHI, June 1: Three suspected associates of Rehman Dakait were killed in what police claimed an encounter with gang members in Malir early Thursday morning. However, the elusive Rehman, believed to be present at the time of the raid, escaped taking cover of the shootout, police said.
The Lyari Task Force headed by SP Aslam Khan reportedly got a tip-off about Rehman’s presence at a hideout of Baoo Goth in Malir.
“We encircled the hideout which resulted in the exchange of a heavy gunfire. The shootout lasted well over an hour. Three of Rehman’s associates were killed, but he with his several men managed to escape under the cover of heavy gunfire and taking advantage of small houses and narrow streets,” DSP Irfan Bahadur said.
Identifying the suspects killed in the encounter as Arif alias Mama, Rizwan Khoti and Rashid alias Kalia, the DSP said that all the three were proclaimed offenders and were wanted in more than 60 criminal cases of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, drug trafficking etc in different police stations of the city.
During the raid, police seized three kalashnikovs, two triple- two rifles, two eight-mm rifles, three TT pistols, and several hundred rounds. A few days back, the same police unit had arrested seven associates of Rehman Dakait.
They were arrested after a shootout at Dubai Chowk. A large cache of arms was also seized from them.
STABBED TO DEATH: A 70-year-old man was killed by the brother of his seventh wife in Sohrab Goth on Thursday.
A duty officer at the Sohrab Goth police station said that Khuda Bukhsh had recently bought a taxi for his brother-in-law, Akhlaq Ahmed, so he could earn his living.
A few days back some misunderstanding had developed between Khuda Bukhsh and his brother-in-law following which he asked for his cab to be returned back to him. This led to a scuffle between the two during which Akhlaq stabbed Khuda Bukhsh.
