LARKANA: Police on Sunday claimed to have arrested one of the key suspects who had gone on a shooting and looting spree in the main bazaar of Warah town in Qambar-Shahdadkot district on October 5.

A gang of 10 heavily armed outlaws had stormed the bazaar held many people, including traders and shopkeepers, at gunpoint and looted them after spreading terror in the entire locality. A police patrol had tried to intervene but the outlaws shot and wounded the Warah SHO and one of his subordinates during the hold-up.

On Sunday, DSP Muzzamil Soomro, DSP Bakhtiar Malik and SHO Rafiq Khero held a press conference at the Warah police station to claim that the suspects were traced through modern technology and one of them, Zohaib Warani Chandio, was arrested along with the weapon and motorcycle used in the hold-up. “He has confessed to his participation in the hold-up,” the police officers further claimed.

With the help of modern technology and information shared by the arrested suspect, efforts were being made to apprehend rest of the gangsters, they added.

Answering a question by journalists, DSP Soomro said disclosing the other suspects’ names would undermine efforts to arrest them.

Larkana DIG Nasir Aftab announced awards and appreciation certificates for Qambar-Shahdadkot SSP Sajid Amir Sadozai, Nasirabad SDPO Mozzamil Soomro, Warah SDPO Bakhtiar Malik and Warah SHO Ali Hassan Mahar for their excellent performance.

‘Dacoit’ killed

The Larkana police on Monday claimed that a most-wanted dacoit fell to the bullets fired by his associates during an encounter with police within the jurisdiction of the Baqapur police station.

He was identified as Ali Gohar Chandio, a resident of Kotri’s University Colony, Jamshoro district.

He was wanted by police in more than a dozen cases registered against him in Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Jacobabad, Shikarpur and Larkana, the police said.
