HYDERABAD: Work on the construction of an outer wall of Special Prison Nara was stopped following a visit by the mukhtiarkar of Latifabad on Thursday and it was decided that demarcation of the SITE’s road and prison’s boundary limits would be done on Friday.

On the other hand, the Hyderabad Site Association of Trade and Industry has addressed a letter to Sindh Inspector General of Prisons Fida Hussain Mastoi, seeking his intervention for the stoppage of the encroachment.

The mukhtiarkar visited the SITE area to inspect the site where Special Prison Nara was raising the outer wall. He also met Hyderabad SITE’s incharge Aijaz Umrani, Special Prison Nara Superintendent Faheem Memon and some industrialists.

SITE officials showed him the entire record of the revenue department regarding the previous demarcation and survey as well as map of the area, clearly marking the boundary of the prison and SITE. He visited the prison superintendent’s office.

Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Zainul Abiden Memon told Dawn that demarcation work for that portion of SITE’s road was fixed for Friday, considering the fact that the irrigation department was also building a drain along the same road, therefore, that matter would be settled amicably soon.

Demarcation to be carried out today

About SITE’s plots allotted to private owners and prison administration’s action to prevent them from raising wall on them, the DC said that exercise would be carried out after the ongoing strike by the Sindh government’s employees was called off.

Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Site Association of Trade and Industry on Thursday also addressed a letter to Sindh IG Prisons Fida Hussain Mastoi, seeking his intervention in the matter.

The letter was addressed by Association’s secretary Furqan Lodhi, mentioning history of the SITE’s land record dating back to 1952 and 1953. He referred to the Sindh High Court’s orders of Oct 25, 2017, validating SITE’s ownership of the land and past measurement of the area.

The letter referred to the drain being built by the irrigation department on the same road to carry wastewater of the Hyderabad’s industrial area, which would drastically reduce space for the movement of heavy vehicles transporting industrial goods. The association also mentioned that legitimate SITE plot owners of plot numbers P-29A and P-29A1 were disallowed to construct boundary walls around their plots whenever they tried to raise it.

The association said it showed unlawful practice which was highlighted in the SITE Hyderabad’s official correspondence.

The association’s secretary requested the IG Prisons to stop illegal construction of the boundary wall and direct the prison administration to confine construction strictly within the limits of the approved maps.
