SUKKUR: Hundreds of Hindu community members clad in ceremonial dresses celebrated the annual Ramapir Mela with religious fervour in the Janullah Shah Mari area on the first day of ‘Bhadav month’ on Tuesday.

Devotees from across Sindh and northern parts of the country came to the venue to join in the festivities and pay homage to Ramapir — also known as Ramdev Pir — a 14th-century saint revered for his teachings of love, equality and service to humanity, says a press release.

According to Shivdari Teerath Mal-Naroo Mal, the in-charge of the temple and festival management, the local observance was initiated more than a century ago by his great-grandfather Shri Naibhoo Mal. Since then, the mela has been held regularly every year.

The festivities began with an all-night Satsang where devotees sang bhajans and offered prayers.

Oil lamps were lit in memory of the saint, and rituals were performed in gratitude. Local Muslims also joined the congregation, reflecting the inclusive spirit that defines Sindh’s social fabric.

This year’s celebration featured a discourse of Gita Gyan by keynote speaker Advocate Akash Kumar Meghwar from Sukkur.
