ISLAMABAD: Armed men allegedly beat and injured two police officials and briefly detained them in a flat, police said on Friday.

A case was registered against the suspects under Section 7 of the ATA, along with Sections 395, 324, 342, 186, 506(ii), 109, 148, and 149 of the PPC, at the Shalimar police station.

According to police, Assistant Sub-Inspector Khusal Ahmed received information about some disturbance in a flat located in E-11/2 and reached the spot along with Constable Muqdar. The ASI found 15 to 20 people inside the flat, armed with weapons, including a man with a criminal record.

The man challenged the two police officials and, along with his accomplices, grabbed them by the arms and dragged them inside the flat. They took the policemen to a corner, held them hostage, and began beating them with the butt stock of their weapons.

As a result, the two policemen sustained injuries. The attackers also forcibly took the official wireless set, a mobile phone and a wallet containing Rs7,000 from the ASI, and a mobile phone and wallet containing Rs2,500 from the constable. They threatened the police officials with dire consequences and warned them not to follow. The gunmen then escaped while firing in the air.

Residents of the vicinity hid in their flats in fear and panic due to the firing and violence. Later, the ASI and constable came out of the flat, reached their police vehicle, and informed police control through the wireless installed in the vehicle.

The Shalimar police also booked the flat owner in the case, despite his absence at the time.
