KARACHI: A young man was gunned down by robbers in Korangi in the early hours of Tuesday morning, police said.

The Zaman Town police said that Ghulam Mohammed, 24, was shot at and wounded when he put up resistance to a robbery bid near Chiniot Hospital.

He sustained critical bullet wounds and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced him dead.

His relatives told the media that he had left home to buy some bakery items when armed robbers killed him.

Ghulam worked for a pharmaceutical company and was supposed to get married soon, they added.

Over 50 people, mostly youths, have been killed by robbers in the metropolis this year.

Meanwhile, a man was killed in the crossfire between robbers and a citizen near Lasi Goth within the remit of the Sohrab Goth police station.

Area SHO Mumtaz Marwat told Dawn that two robbers were looting a citizen at gunpoint and they started firing when the victim said he knew them.

He said that the citizen also took out his pistol and challenged the robber. During an exchange of gunfire, 22-year-old Jan Sher, who was sitting at a nearby resultant, sustained a bullet wound in the head and died.

The SHO said the citizen came forward to the police and an investigation was underway to ascertain whose bullet caused the death.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
