TOBA TEK SINGH: FIA’s Faisalabad circle arrested a man allegedly involved in a Rs36.2 million banking fraud.
An FIA official says Hassan Raza, who was arrested in Hassanpura, Faisalabad, was an employee of a private bank. He, along with some other bank officials, allegedly misappropriated US$128,000 from foreign accounts.
The suspects used fake accounts opened in Gatwala branch of the bank to withdraw the amount.Two other bank officials, Usman (manager) and Shahzad Ahmad (relationship manager), who were Raza’s accomplices in the scam, have already been arrested.
The official says that Raza was also named in eight robbery cases registered by local police.
SUSPECT KILLED: An alleged robber was killed in an ‘encounter’ with Rodala police at Faisalabad on Monday.
Police claimed that an arrested robbery suspect, Mujerbur Rehman, was being taken by a police team back to the police station after the recovery of some looted items on his indication, when his four accomplices, riding two motorcycles, attacked and intercepted the police by resorting to indiscriminate fire near Chak 375 GB.
The suspects freed Rehman from the police and fled. More police force was called and after a chase, they exchanged fire with the criminals. After a half-hour-long crossfire, the police found Rehman lying injured, allegedly in the firing by his accomplices, who fled.
The injured suspect was being shifted to Allied Hospital when he succumbed to his wounds on the way.
Police say the suspect was also allegedly involved in a dacoity-cum-murder case.
Meanwhile, another dacoity suspect was killed in an alleged encounter with CCD in Haveli Koranga police limits in Kabirwala tehsil of Khanewal on late Sunday night.
Police claimed the suspect, Ghulam Sarwar Baloch of Darkhana, was also killed by his own accomplices during a crossfire. He was involved in 68 robberies, the police claimed further.
SEMINAR: Speakers at a seminar on Down syndrome held at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) called for strengthening support mechanisms for individuals with this condition.
The awareness seminar was organised by UAF in collaboration with Karachi Down Syndrome Programme.
Institute of Home Sciences Director Dr Beenish Israr, Dr Ayesha Riaz, Dr Alvina Haseeb, Dr Adeela Manzoor, Assistant Manager KDSP Aimen Rashid and othersalso spoke on the occasion.
They said that Down syndrome was a chromosomal condition, but with proper rehabilitation services, individuals can be fully mainstreamed into society.
With the timely and proper support and early intervention, these individuals can lead independent and fulfilling lives, they said.
The event also featured success stories of individuals with Down syndrome, and the need for collaborative efforts to enhance accessibility and opportunities.
