KARACHI: The Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi on Thursday underlined the need for equipping district judiciary with modern infrastructure and institutional support to enhance the overall effectiveness of the judicial sector.

He also noted that the government was actively engaged in addressing infrastructural requirements of the judiciary in line with contemporary standards.

Given Karachi’s status as the economic hub of the country, the CJP further underscored the urgency of establishing a judicial infrastructure that can meet the city’s expanding legal and commercial demands.

He made these observations during a meeting with president of Karachi Bar Association Amir Nawaz Warraich and secretary Abdul Rehman Korai at the Supreme Court Karachi Registry.

The additional resident secretary of Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan Sohail Ahmed Mashori was also present during the meeting.

To improve coordination and implementation of reforms, the CJP said, the additional resident secretary had been appointed in each province to serve as a liaison with the district judiciary. The initiative aims to bridge the gaps through meaningful collaboration between the bench and the bar, he added.

The CJP said that the district judiciary remained central to the ongoing priority agenda, as it served as the primary forum for interface between the public and access to justice.

According to a statement issued by the apex court, the visiting representatives of the KBA expressed their appreciation to the Chief Justice of Pakistan for his time and addressing the pressing issues faced by the legal fraternity in the provincial capital.

They also expressed gratitude for the CJP’s vision and leadership.
