GUJRAT: The federal government transferred Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Gujranwala zone Director Abdul Qadir Qamar and posted him as the chief of staff for the FIA director general.

According to a notification, Muhammad Bin Ashraf, a BS-19 officer of the Pakistan Police Service (PSP), has been posted as the FIA Gujranwala director with immediate effect.

However, his predecessor Mr Qamar was a PSP officer in BS-20. He served in the position for 14 months and launched a crackdown against human trafficking networks in Gujranwala and Gujrat regions.

A number of key human traffickers involved in the recent boat tragedies in Greece, Libya and Morocco were arrested during his tenure.

Official sources said Mr Qamar had relinquished his charge and was expected to join his new assignment on Thursday. Whereas, the newly-posted director might also assume charge on Thursday, the added.
