NAROWAL: Two suspected robbers were killed in an alleged encounter with the Crime Control Department (CCD) after reportedly being shot by their own accomplices during an exchange of fire with police.
According to Inspector Muhammad Akram, who led the police raid, the team was pursuing dangerous suspects near MR Link Canal, close to Khokhar Bridge, when four unidentified armed men opened fire on the police. The officials returned fire, aiming at nearby trees and the back of the fleeing suspects’ vehicle. The assailants continued to fire while escaping the scene.
Following the brief exchange, a search operation was launched in the surrounding area, where two suspects were found critically injured. The wounded men were identified as Nazim Butt alias Naji and Mehboob Hussain alias Tony, both residents of Kasur. They named their fleeing accomplices as Mohsin and Azeem Butt, residents of Muridke.
Weapons were recovered from the scene. Rescue 1122 was called for emergency aid, but both injured suspects succumbed to their injuries before the team arrived. Police claimed that the deceased were shot by their own accomplices.
Constable Waseem Baig narrowly escaped injury as a bullet struck his bulletproof jacket during the encounter.
A first information report (FIR) has been registered against the fleeing suspects under sections 302, 324, 353, and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the complaint of Inspector Akram. Police said that the deceased suspects were wanted in numerous cases of theft, robbery, and other serious crimes.
Raids are underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
