“The president also briefed the delegation on the issue of civilian nuclear energy cooperation, in the wake of US-India nuclear energy cooperation agreement,” a Foreign Office statement said after the delegation called on the president during the day.

The French parliamentary delegation was led by Claude Birraux, President of France-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group in the national assembly of France.

During the meeting views were exchanged on a wide array of bilateral and international issues. Specifically Afghanistan, Iran nuclear issue and Pakistan’s on-going efforts in fight against terrorism figured in the discussions, the Foreign Office statement said.

The delegation conveyed its appreciation for Pakistan’s role in fight against terrorism and in promoting stability in Afghanistan, it said.

President Musharraf told the delegation that Pakistan attached great value to relations with France and held its leadership in high esteem.

He specially thanked the delegation for the substantial French support to relief and reconstruction efforts following the Oct 8 earthquake and said that he was “deeply touched” by President Chirac’s personal interest in prompt sending relief assistance.
