CHITRAL: Two women died in a road accident in Saht village of Upper Chitral here on Thursday morning when the jeep carrying them to Booni plunged into a deep ravine, while the driver escaped unhurt miraculously.

The deceased, who were in their twenties, were identified as daughters of Nadir Khan and Maqsad Khan, and belonged to the same family. A villager said that the vehicle veered off the road while taking a sharp turn. The local police are conducting an inquiryto ascertain the cause of the fatal accident.

NCHD REP VISITS CHITRAL VARSITY: A representative of the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) visited Chitral University as part of the national literacy campaign “Each One Teach One” and called on the vice-chancellor, Prof. Hazirullah.

In a press release issued here on Thursday, as per the initial understanding reached at during the meeting, university students will work as volunteers in a nationwide effort to eradicate illiteracy in remote areas.

Under this collaboration, university students will work with local communities in remote areas of Chitral to identify and educate out-of-school children as well as illiterate adults, read the press release.

To effectively coordinate this initiative, the University of Chitral has appointed Dr. Sanaullah, head of the sociology department, and Dr. Atiq Tariq, head of the education department as focal persons for the project, it concluded.
