KARACHI: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and an intelligence agency jointly carried out an action on Hub River Road on Thursday and gunned down two alleged militants linked with the banned Tehreek Taliban Pakistan, said a CTD spokesperson.

The spokesperson added that acting on a tip-off about the presence of militants belonging to Fitnatul Khawarij, the raid was conducted in Askani Mohalla within the remit of the Moachko police station.

In the ensuing encounter, two alleged terrorists were killed. One suicide jacket, one Kalashnikov, one pistol and explosive material were recovered from their possession.

The suicide jacket was defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad officials.

The bodies were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities where their identity could not be ascertained till late in the evening.

Girl shot dead

A 12-year-old girl was shot dead in the aerial firing during a marriage ceremony in the SITE area on Wednesday night.

The police arrested the bridegroom and his father on Thursday.

Site-A police SHO Imran Afridi told Dawn that Zeenat Gulzada sustained bullet injuries. One bullet after piercing through a tin sheet hit the girl, who was asleep in the courtyard of her house. She died while being taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The police have registered a case under Sections 322 and 34 of Pakistan Penal Code against Hameed Khan, his son bridegroom Habib Khan and others on the complaint of the victim’s father.

Keamari SSP Faizan Ali said that the police have arrested both nominated suspects.
