KARACHI, May 15: The inauguration of the Hubco-Baldia power link has been delayed for a fortnight and it would now formally be inaugurated by the end of this month or early next month. The Hubco-Baldia link was completed with a cost of Rs3 million and has started functioning on an experimental basis. Its formal inauguration was expected on May 15 but the programme has been rescheduled as the link was still in the testing phase.

Member Power of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Mohammad Anwar Khalid, while talking to Dawn over telephone on Monday, said that the work on the link had been completed and 150-160 megawatts power was being supplied through the link as it was in testing phase.

Having the capability to carry 500mw power, the link is expected to be formally inaugurated in 10-15 days, according to him.

He said that the president or prime minister would be invited to inaugurate the link.

Mr Anwar, who was on a visit to Karachi on Monday, said that the Wapda rest house in the Defence Housing Society he was staying at, was without power due to a breakdown.

He reiterated his stand that Wadpa had been supplying more than the agreed upon power of 550mw to the KESC, adding that recently, it had supplied up to 670mw.
