SHANGLA: A coalminer who had died in the Akhorwal coalmine company in Dara Adam Khel the other day was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Dehrai area of Alpuri on Sunday.
According to locals, Muhammad Sadbar, 47, had been working in the coalmine for the last many years and died during blasting inside the mine the other day, and his body was brought to Shangla late Saturday night and buried there.
CHILD KILLED IN ROAD MISHAP: A child was killed and eight others were injured after a pickup fell into a gorge in the Board area of Alpuri here on Sunday.
According to Rescue 1122 Shangla spokesperson Rasool Khan Sharif, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which plunged into a deep ravine, killing a girl and injuring eight people, including women.
He said the Rescue 1122 team reached the spot immediately and retrieved them, and moved them to the district headquarters hospital, Alpuri for medical assistance.
The injured included five women and three children, who belonged to the same family.
PLANTATION DRIVE: The Shangla administration on Sunday launched monsoon tree plantation campaign including fruit trees to protect the region from increasing soil erosion.
The additional deputy commissioner (relief), along with the range forest officer, formally inaugurated the campaign by planting fruit trees at the deputy commissioner’s office, Shangla.
On this occasion, various types of fruit trees were also distributed among the public to participate in the campaign and play their role in making Shangla district lush and green.
