RAWALPINDI: Two suspects wanted by the police in different cases were killed in separate ‘encounters’ with the Crime Control Department in Rawalpindi while their accomplices escaped.
According to the police, as soon as a raid was conducted on information about the presence of the wanted men near the Kallar Syedan bypass road, the suspects opened fire.
In retaliation, one suspect was killed. He has been identified as Zafar alias Ali Baghi. The suspect was wanted in several cases of murder, extortion and attempted murder. His two accomplices fled the scene, a police spokesman said, adding the CCD team launched a search operation in the area to trace the absconding suspects.
The spokesman said the second operation was carried out at Matinpura Mor area on GT Road during which the CCD team was fired upon. During the encounter, leader of the Meru gang, Amir alias Meru, was injured and arrested by the police. The suspect was being shifted to hospital when he succumbed to the injuries, he said.
A motorcycle and modern weapons were recovered from the possession of the deceased. He was wanted in serious cases like kidnapping, extortion, robbery and attempted murder.
