THATTA: A District and Sessions Judge on Thursday refuted lawyers’ claims of a complete strike, saying that several cases were heard on the day in question.

Mushtari Khanam, in a statement, said that judicial proceedings in the district courts were not completely halted on Wednesday.

A day earlier, Thatta’s lawyers had claimed that they had boycotted courts and staged a protest following the denial of adjournment in a case regarding custodial torture.

The statement disputed media reports suggesting that the legal fraternity of Thatta observed a strike and boycott of court proceedings across the district in protest against certain remarks made by Additional Sessions Judge-II of Thatta Ahmed Raza in an order pertaining to the grant of bail to the in-charge of Thatta CIA Centre Mumtaz Brohi.

“A total of 215 cases were listed before various courts on July 2, 2025 and 39 cases were disposed of however 176 cases were adjourned in accordance with the specific circumstances of each case, 12 witnesses were examined,” District & Sessions Judge Khanam said.
