Pakistan’s UN envoy has said that the UNSC bears primary responsibility to “stop the aggression and hold the aggressor accountable for its actions” amid the Iran-Israel war.

He urged the council to fulfil its duty and affirm:

  • Categorical rejection and condemnation of Israel’s attacks on Iran since June 13 and all actions that contravene international law and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

  • Play its due role to end hostilities and promote de-escalation for achieving a comprehensive ceasefire before the situation spirals out of control and threatens the peace and stability of the entire region.

  • Clear denunciation of the targeting of IAEA safeguarded nuclear facilities against the provisions of international law and the UN Charter, as reflected in UNSC, IAEA resolutions and international law, including the Geneva Conventions.

  • Call for dialogue and diplomacy to promote a peaceful and lasting resolution of the crisis.
