Three of a family ‘drown’ in canal

MIANWALI: Three members of a family are feared to have drowned in Chashma-Jhelum link canal near Harnoli, Pilpan tehsil, on Thursday morning and rescue teams were busy to fish out the bodies.

As per Rescue 1122 sources, their control room received a call about the drowning incident of three persons in Chashma-Jhelum link canal and a rescue team rushed to the spot.

The team learnt from a passerby that a man namely Munawar (45), his son Muhammad Anees (13) and daughter Shireen (11) were collecting woods from the forest along the bank of the canal and suddenly his daughter Shireen slipped and fell into 14-ft deep canal.

Anees jumped in to rescue his sister but both started drowning. On seeing the situation, their father also jumped in to rescue both and all drowned.

Rescue teams from Mianwali and Piplan reached the spot and till the filing of the report at 7pm, operation was in progress.
