KARACHI: An armed clash between two rival groups left two men dead in a house located in Ittehad Town on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Saifur Rehman, a factory worker originally hailing from the Tank area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Ali Mohammad.
South-DIG Syed Asad Raza told Dawn that three suspects — Anar Gul, Mohammed Gul and their nephew Ali Mohammed – barged into the home of Saifur Rehman at about 4am by scaling its walls and opened fire on the occupants. Saifur Rehman was killed and his brother Ateequr Rehman was wounded while one of the intruders, Ali Mohammed was also killed when the two sides traded fire. Anar Gul and Mohammed Gul alias Madhu escaped from the area after the incident.
The police have recovered 22 spent bullet casings and one 30-bore pistol. Two mobile phones, belonging to Saifur Rehman and his wife, were taken into custody for investigation.
Ittehad Town SHO Rao Shabbir said that Saifur Rehman had contracted a freewill marriage with a married woman, Nabeela, in Tank and brought her to Karachi about three months ago. The new couple had been living in a rented house near Khyber Chowk.
According to the preliminary inquiry, two of the suspects who intruded the couple’s home were brothers of Nabeela’s ex-husband, Zahid, and the third was their nephew. The SHO said the incidents seemed to be a case of ‘honour’. He said both the injured men and the woman had been taken into custody for interrogation.
