SAHIWAL: A middle-aged woman was gunned down by her two brothers at Al-Noor Colony of Pakpattan after she refused to transfer in their name 38 acres of agriculture land that she had got from her ailing husband. The incident occurred in front of her sister and brother-in-law.

Kanwal Bashir married Anwar Jamal in 2017 and moved to his house in Farid Nagar Colony. The couple lived a happy married life but remained childless.

Around two years back, Jamal suffered a stroke that left him paralysed. Due to his deteriorating health, Jamal transferred all his assets—including 38 acres of agricultural land, a one-acre residence, a house in Lahore and a car—to Kanwal as she was running day-to-day affairs of their home.

This decision sparked a dispute between Kanwal and her brothers, Asim and Amir, who insisted that she transferred the agricultural land in their name and wrote a contract. When she refused to sign it, tensions escalated.

In March, Amir allegedly attempted to murder Kanwal and she registered a case with Farid Nagar police. Amir obtained interim bail from the Lahore High Court.

Fearing for their safety, Kanwal and Jamal relocated to the house of her sister Shagufta. On the night of the incident, there was a knock on the door.

Shagufta, her husband Hussain, and their maternal cousin Zahid Aslam woke up and opened the gate. They were confronted by Amir and Asim, both armed with pistols. The brothers dragging Kanwal out and shot her dead. Nobody stopped the suspects who fled after the murder.

City police transported the body for post-mortem and registered a murder case against Amir and Asim on the complaint of Shagufta. According to SHO Hashim, police arrested both the suspects.

PETROL: The Pakpattan district administration thwarted an attempt to smuggle 48,000 litre Iranian petrol from Karachi to a private company, Wazir Khan Petroleum, near Chak 19/SP of Pakpattan.

The operation was led by Assistant Commissioner Bilawal Ali Hinjra and it involved officials of the Customs Department, Civil Defense and police.

The authorities arrested the truck driver and seized the vehicle.

CYLINDER BLAST: A man sustained critical burn injuries when an LPG gas cylinder exploded at a decanting shop at Chak 19/SP, Pakpattan.

The shop was closed at the time of the blast; however, a nearby mobile shop owner was injured due to its impact. Rescue 1122 personnel transported Niaz Ahmed (40) to the DHQ Hospital.
