MARDAN: Six members of a family were killed and two others sustained serious injuries when the roof of a double-storey building collapsed due to a gas cylinder explosion in Iram Colony area here on Saturday night, Rescue 1122 and district administration officials said.

The rescue service officials said its teams pulled out a total of eight persons from the debris, including two men, a woman and five children.

They said that the deceased persons were identified as Fawad, 36, his wife and two children, Riyan, 7, and Aiza 4, Shah Fahid, 25, and eight-year-old Tuba, daughter of Jawad.

Besides, the injured minors were identified as five-year-old Aysha, daughter of Fawad, and five-year-old Dua, daughter of Jawad.

The officials said that the rescue operation was completed in seven hours, and the deceased and the injured were shifted to Mardan Medical Complex Hospital.

Deputy commissioner Dr Azmatullah Wazir, district emergency officer Syed Shoib Mansoor and assistant commissioner Junaid Khalid supervised the rescue operation.
