KARACHI: An undertrial prisoner, who was among over 200 prisoners escaped from Malir jail, took his own life at his sister’s home in the Mauripur area on Thursday, police said.

Area SHO Sardar Abbasi said that Raza Pervaiz, 25, ended his life by hanging himself in Madni Colony.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

In a pre-recorded video statement shared on social media, Pervaiz claimed that he was innocent as he escaped from prison because of the earthquake and firing.

Quoting his family, the area SHO said that he ended his life because he was afraid of being sent to prison again.

He said that he was arrested by the Eidgah police in a drug case on March 30, 2022.
