HYDERABAD: A poultry farm worker and two children died and over 20 suffered injuries as several walls and roofs collapsed in strong winds, which accompanied by heavy rain, pounded Hyderabad and Jamshoro districts on Wednesday.

Watchman of a poultry farm in Latifabad unit-10, Deepak alias Kala, died and a relative of the farm owner Fahad Qureshi received injuries when the farm’s roof caved in on them.

Many reports of damage to signboards and solar panels installed by residents on rooftops were received from different areas of Hyderabad.

Met Office recorded wind speed at 40 nautical miles per hour and 0.3mm of rain at its City and 1mm at airport offices. The city is experiencing 44 degrees Celsius for last week. Today’s maximum temperature was recorded at 44.5 degrees at the Met Office before the drizzle started.

Hesco spokesman claimed that the windstorm affected 275 feeders and of them 54 belonged to Hyderabad city alone. 29 feeders were energised and work was underway on 25 others, which were affected by falling trees.

In Kotri and adjoining areas, two children died and more than 25 people suffered injuries in multiple incidents of wall collapse, falling signboards, uprooted trees, and hail.

Rashid Chandio, 15, and Ayaz Koharo, 10, died when they came under debris of walls in Babar Stop and Brohi Chowk areas in Kotri.

In another incident in Umair Town, two brothers, Saddam and his sibling, were injured in a similar incident.

Kotri government hospital is currently treating dozens of people injured during the rain and storm related incidents.
