ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi has re-constituted a seven-member Committee for Enhan­cing Environmental Justice (CEEJ) in the country by appointing Justice Muh­ammad Shafi Siddiqui as its chairman.

Other members of the committee are Justices Ali Baqar Najafi, Justice Jawad Hassan of the Lahore High Court, Justice Omar Sial of the Sindh High Court, Justice Muhammad Aamir Nawaz Rana of the Baloc­histan High Court, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir of the Islamabad High Court and Justice Muhammad Naeem Anwar of the Peshawar High Court.

Constituted by the Supreme Court, the CEEJ was established to promote environmental justice and address climate change that plays a crucial role in and ensuring that climate change cases are treated like other civil or criminal cases.

Meeting with envoy

Meanwhile, in a separate development, Ambas­sador of Türkiye, Irfan Nezirolu, on Tuesday met the CJP at the Supreme Court.

The CJP highlighted the long-standing and cordial judicial relations bet­ween Pakistan and Türk­iye, rooted in mutual resp­ect, shared legal traditio­­ns, and deep cultural ties.

He appreciated the ongoing cooperation in the field of judicial education and capacity building of various tiers of judicial system. He noted that structured exposure to Türkiye’s advancements in court management, digitisation of judicial processes and application of Artificial Intelligence in judicial systems would be highly beneficial for judicial officers at all levels.
