KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) claimed to have arrested two men for their alleged involvement in illegal hawala-hundi and foreign currency trade.

The Anti-Corruption Circle and Corporate Crime Circle of the FIA carried out raids in the Jamshed Road and Tariq Road areas and arrested Hamza Saleem and Aqeel Abbas.

Mr Abbas was found to be linked with a hawala-hundi network, which was being operated from Dubai.

The second suspect, Mr Saleem, was involved in running an illegal currency exchange.

During the raids, the FIA claimed to have recovered Rs4.5 million and $13,500 as well as hundi receipts and a mobile phone from the suspects.

The suspects could not satisfy the authorities regarding the recovered currency, and an investigation has been initiated against them, said a spokesperson for the FIA.
