DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Five members of a family were killed and several others injured in a road accident here on Monday.

The accident occurred when a speeding dumper loaded with gas cylinders collided head-on with a car on Dera-Zhob Highway near Sur Dagar area.

According to a Rescue 1122 spokesman, the deceased have been identified as Haji Mehboob Gul, Hasil Sheikh, Haji Yar Mohammad, Nazo Sheikh, and a nine-year-old grandson of Mehboob.

Rescue 1122 and police teams promptly arrived at the scene and shifted the bodies and injured to the District Headquarters Hospital, Dera.

Eyewitnesses said that the accident was caused by over-speeding of the dumper, which went out of the driver’s control and rammed into the car. The horrifying impact turned the car into a twisted metal, claiming five lives instantly.

The atmosphere in the area turned somber and mournful, with tears in every eye as news of the accident spread. Locals demanded that the government should take strict measures to regulate heavy traffic on highways and ensure accountability to prevent such tragedies in the future.
