SARGODHA: A man convicted of murdering four members of his family was shot dead near Bhakkar DHQ Hospital on Saturday, shortly after being released from the district jail.

Reports said Shakeel Akram, who had killed his wife, sister, sister-in-law and mother-in-law in Shahkot in 2021, was arrested by police and sent to trial for the quadruple murder. A subordinate court had sentenced him to death on four counts following his conviction.

After his sentence, Shakeel was imprisoned in the local district jail. However, according to police, the Lahore High Court later acquitted him due to insufficient evidence, leading to his release on Saturday.

While traveling back to his home in Kallur Kot, Shakeel was attacked by his opponents riding a motorcycle, who opened fire and killed him near DHQ Hospital Bhakkar.

His body was shifted to the DHQ Hospital for a postmortem examination. Further investigations are underway.
