It’s here, the day we try to show our mothers just how much we love them, more than anything in the world. While the truth is, we should express that love every single day and every minute, let this day be something special.

Treat her like a queen. Surprise her with a gift you can afford. And if you can’t buy anything, create something with your own hands because handmade gifts are priceless. So, taking this opportunity, here is an idea to create something she can always look at and cherish.

Things you need:

  1. A piece of cardboard (6x6 or 8x8 inches)

  2. A4-sized coloured paper (I used black)

  3. Five 2-inch-sized pictures of your mother with you or your siblings. You can also use flower stickers, drawings or any nice images. I used pictures of mother and child just to give you an idea.

  4. A phrase expressing love for your mother, either printed or handwritten

  5. A glue stick

  6. Hot glue

  7. Scissors

  8. Colourful beads 6 (optional)

  9. Ribbon – choose a colour that matches the theme or tones of the pictures you’re using.

  10. Flowers (fake or stickers)

  11. Five feathers (optional)

Directions:

  1. Using any circular mould, cut the cardboard into a circle, then cover it with coloured paper, pictures 2 and 3.

  2. Paste or write your chosen phrase in the centre of the cardboard circle, picture 4.

  3. Paste the pictures on same sized cardboard pieces to give them weight so they don’t blow away in the wind. Then, paste them onto coloured paper slightly larger than the pictures to create a highlighted border, see picture 5.

  4. Cut five pieces of ribbon, each 10 inches long, and paste them at equal distances from each other on the back of the cardboard, picture 6.

  5. Decorate the front with fake flowers or stickers, picture 7.

  6. To estimate the spacing for the pictures on the ribbons, lay them out first to find the right distance, then mark the spots. Now carefully paste the pictures onto the ribbons using hot glue, picture 8. (You can use white glue but it takes time to dry.)

  7. The use of beads and feathers is optional, you can get creative and add anything that looks good when the chime hangs, such as beaded strings, colourful ribbons or laces, picture 9.

  8. Insert a bead at a measured distance on the ribbon and place a feather just below it, pictures 10 and 11.

  9. Create a loop using ribbon or string and paste it on the back of the chime for hanging, picture 12.

This simple, heartfelt and priceless present will definitely bring a smile to your mother’s face!
