HARIPUR: Two persons were killed and one was injured when a car veered off a bridge on the Hazara Motorway near Sera-i- Saleh and plunged into the dried bed of a watercourse, police and hospital sources said here on Sunday.

Local police said that over-speeding caused the fatal accident. They said Malik Mazar Hassan, a local cricketer, was on way to Islamabad from Mohallah Sher Khan along with his nephew, Ahmed Noor and friend, Malik Saddam Pervez, when the accident occurred.

The police and people rushed to the site, and shifted the three inmates to the Haripur Trauma Centre, where doctors pronounced Malik Mazar as brought dead, while his friend and nephew were referred to Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, in precarious condition.

However, Malik Saddam also succumbed to head injuries, police and hospital sources said, adding the injured was also in critical condition.

Meanwhile, divers failed to find a clue to a missing young picnicker, who drowned in the Khanpur Dam four days ago, eyewitnesses and police said on Sunday.

Raja Hanif Ahsan Kiyani, president Khanpur boats association, told Dawn that the association had suspended its water sports activities as a mark of solidarity with the bereaved family.

A windstorm left a boat overturned in the middle of the Khanpur reservoir On May 1, drowning six members of a family from Peshawar.

However, the local drivers and boatmen rescued five of them, including a woman and three children, but Suleman, 20, could not be rescued.

The family also engaged the professional divers from Pakistan Navy, who also scoured through the reservoir’s water for the second consecutive day, but without any result.
