GUJAR KHAN: PTI’s Punjab chief organiser Aliya Hamza was released from Jhelum district jail on Thursday night, a day after her post-arrest bail was approved by a court in Rawalpindi.

Jail authorities received release orders for the PTI leader on Thursday evening. Judicial Magistrate Qamar Abbas approved her post-arrest bail against a surety bond of Rs100,000 on Wednesday.

Ms Hamza was arrested along with five other PTI workers on April 19 in a case of road block and rioting in the Dhoke Kamal Din area of Rawalpindi while leading a workers’ convention.

She was shifted to Jhelum district jail on a 14-day judicial remand from Rawalpindi’s Adiyala jail due to insufficient accommodation facilities in female barracks there.

On Thursday night, a police official confirmed to Dawn on condition of anonymity that the PTI leader was released after 10pm and received by her legal team and family members amid strict security measures.
