KARACHI, May 3: The Sindh government on Wednesday decided not to pay electricity dues regarding un-metered billing. This decision was made at a meeting with the Chief Secretary, Fazalur Rehman, in the chair. The meeting reviewed the matter of electricity dues of various government departments, especially those related to the local government.

Addressing the meeting, the chief secretary made it clear that decisions taken in the previous meeting would be implemented.

He was surprised that despite decisions taken in meetings between the Sindh government and Hesco officials, the Hesco, instead of cutting power supply of defaulter government servants residing in government residential colonies, was issuing bills directly to the Sindh government.

Regarding the police colonies of Hyderabad and Sukkur, it was decided that after a joint survey of relevant Hesco and police officials, electricity meters for individual consumers would be installed in these colonies within a month.

The meeting decided that the departments of education, local government, and water and power would ensure payment of their power dues in the current month.—PPI/APP
