KARACHI: An elderly man was killed by a water tanker in Baldia Town, police said on Sunday.

Saeedabad SHO Idris Bangash said that the tanker driver was reversing the vehicle in Sector-8-E when it hit and ran over 75-year-old Arif Khan.

The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities.

The driver responsible for the accident managed to escape, leaving behind the tanker.

The incident angered area people who damaged the tanker. When police arrived there to control the situation, angry youths pelted them with stones, causing injuries to three constables.

The SHO said that the police resorted to baton charge to disperse the mob.

Young man shot dead

A young man was shot dead on city outskirts on Sunday.

The Shah Latif Town police said that Gul Zaib, 24, was shot and killed by unidentified assailants at Jam Khando Goth off National Highway.

The police attributed some personal enmity behind the incident.

The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.
