His panther-like prowl on the runway has made him the darling of leading fashion designers and brands, marking him as a modelling regular at all the top-tier fashion events of the country. In addition, he is the face of many popular brands and consumer products and has lit up a number of billboards.

Arshan Ali Khan also won a Best Fashion Physique award at a global event in Thailand last year.

You would think that’s quite a lot of achievement for a young Hazara man still in his mid-20s. But you would be wrong. Arshan is also a self-employed art director and considers himself an influencer. Moreover, he is still looking out for other avenues of creativity to explore...

Q. Describe your sense of style and fashion?

Arshan Ali Khan: My style is a reflection of simplicity combined with an edge. I lean toward versatile pieces that can be styled effortlessly, yet I always try to incorporate a standout element that makes my look unique. Comfort is key, but I never compromise on a polished finish.

Q. Who are your all-time favourite local designers, and who do you love to wear the most?

AAK: I have immense respect for local talent such as HSY and Nomi Ansari, who have mastered the art of celebrating tradition with a contemporary twist. Their work resonates with my aesthetics, and I feel confident wearing their creations. Among the newer lot of fashion designers, I particularly like Zubair Shah who thinks out of the box, and his form-fitting Westernwear is really fun to wear.

Arshan Ali Khan stands out on the catwalk but also wherever he goes, because of his good looks and physique. But there’s more to him than meets the eye…

Q. Tell us about you winning the best fashion physique award in Thailand.

AAK: It was a surreal experience to win the Mr Master Gold Medallist Pro World 2024 title. Competing on an international platform and being recognised for my dedication to fitness and fashion was both humbling and exhilarating. It’s a moment I’ll always cherish, as it proves the power of perseverance and passion.

Q, Fashion is waning and the industry is not what it used to be. Comment.

AAK: While the industry has faced challenges, I see this as a period of transformation rather than decline. Fashion is evolving, with a growing focus on sustainability and individuality. This shift brings new opportunities for creativity and innovation, which I believe will redefine the industry for the better.

Q. How many campaigns have you done so far, and with which brands?

AAK: I’ve been fortunate to work with leading brands such as Levi’s, Pepsi and Sunsilk. Each project has been a learning experience, and I’m grateful for the exposure and growth these collaborations have brought me.

Q. If given a chance, would you like to work abroad? And who are your favourite international fashion brands or designers?

AAK: Absolutely! Working abroad would be a dream come true. Brands such as Gucci, Dior and Alexander McQueen have always been an inspiration to me. Their ability to blend art with fashion is unparalleled, and I’d love to be a part of that world.

Q. Do you have any acting aspirations?

AAK: I do! Acting intrigues me because it allows you to tell stories and embody different personas. When the right opportunity comes along, I’d love to explore it and see where it takes me.

Q. Do you listen to music? And what are your favourite movies?

AAK: Music is a huge part of my life — I enjoy a mix of genres, from soulful tracks by John Mayer to upbeat vibes from The Weeknd. When it comes to movies, I’m drawn to all-round favourites such as Inception and The Dark Knight, as well as inspiring stories such as The Pursuit of Happyness.

Q. How are you as a person? Do you have a lot of friends in the industry?

AAK: I’d describe myself as driven yet approachable. I value genuine connections and, while I’ve built meaningful relationships in the industry, I prefer quality over quantity when it comes to friendships.

Q. What advice would you give to newcomers in the industry?

AAK: Stay authentic and work hard. The industry is competitive but your unique identity is your greatest asset. Build a strong portfolio, network wisely and never stop learning. Most importantly, believe in yourself and your journey.
