KARACHI: During the past week, authorities in the city have seized 11,276 motorcycles over helmet violations while action was taken against 831 vehicles for having fancy number plates and tinted windows.

Moreover, 193 dumpers and tankers were impounded due to the absence of fitness certificates and incidents of overspeeding as part of a crackdown on traffic laws violations that is underway in the metropolis on the instructions of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

The traffic police on Wednesday presented their progress report from April 9 to April 16 to the CM, detailing the actions taken against numerous violations, a spokesperson of the CM said.

They recommended cancelling the registration of 25 large and small vehicles due to lack of fitness. In this regard, a temporary cancellation of registration for 174 vehicles has also been proposed.

The chief minister has instructed bike riders to wear helmets and stay safe and directed the traffic police to take strict action against motorcyclists not wearing helmets.

The CM also clarified that there will be zero tolerance for unfit and unregistered vehicles, and immediate fines will be imposed for fancy number plates and tinted windows. He also instructed to ensure complete enforcement of traffic laws.
