KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Saturday sent an underage car driver to prison on judicial remand in a case pertaining to death of a couple in a traffic accident.

The court also directed the police to file an investigation report as well as the report of an ossification test at the next hearing to be held after two weeks.

Suspect Aneeq Imam has been booked and arrested for killing motorcyclist Ayaz and his wife, Aqsa, in a traffic accident on March 26 on Sharea Faisal when his car hit the parked motorcycle causing severe injuries to the couple who later on died during treatment at a hospital.

After the end of his physical remand, the investigating officer brought the suspect before the court of a judicial magistrate (East).

Orders IO to produce ossification test report within two weeks

Replying to the queries of magistrate, the IO submitted that the suspect was in police custody for the last eight days and an ossification test of the suspect was conducted to determine his actual age.

However, he stated that the report of the ossification test had not been issued yet due to Eid holidays.

When the magistrate asked about initial report of the ossification test, the IO replied in the negative. He also submitted that the owner of the vehicle in question was still at large.

The lawyers for the complainant and suspect have exchanged words during the hearing.

The magistrate sent the suspect to jail on judicial remand and directed the IO to file the investigation report as required under Section 173 of Criminal Procedure Code along with the report of the ossification test.

At a previous hearing, police had informed the court that the suspect was found to be an underage and did not possess a driving licence and the car involved in the accident belonged to the father of his friend Saad, identified as Asad.

The police had also stated that the suspect was 17 years old. However, the suspect had informed the court that he was 16.

A case was registered at Sharea Faisal police station under Section 322 (punishment for qatl-bis-sabab) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of victims’ relative Naseem Ahmed Ansari.
