RAWALPINDI: The residents of the garrison city celebrated Eidul Fitr with religious fervour, enthusiasm and joy amidst tight security.

Mosques across the twin cities were decorated on Eid and large congregations were also arranged in parks and open places where clerics delivered special sermons and urged the faithful to follow the message of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) in its true spirit and work for peace in the world and country.

They prayed for national solidarity, integrity and prosperity at Eid congregations.

The local administration had made special security arrangements at various places.

“Eidul Fitr was celebrated peacefully and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the city,” said a district official.

After Eid prayers, families went to various graveyards to offer prayers for the departed souls of their family members. Florists had set up stalls around various large and small graveyards in the twin cities to facilitate the people who visited graveyards.

The sale of rose petals and merry gold was rising in the twin cities as the people preferred to decorate the graves of their near and dear ones with rose petals on the occasion of Eidul Fitr.

At some places in the garrison city, small Eid fairs were arranged. Children enjoyed swing rides, while others rode horses and camels that had been brought specially for the occasion.

On the roads of the city, youngsters were seen riding bicycles and motorbikes to express their excitement.

The great rush was witnessed in the garrison city cinemas, restaurants, cafes and parks.

The Ayub National Park and Alama Iqbal Park also drew scores of children and families who came to celebrate the Eidul Fitr.

Rawalpindi administration and local police officials including Deputy Commissioner Dr Hassan Waqar Cheema visited Holy Family Hospital and the Social Welfare Department’s orphanage.

He distributed sweets among the patients and their attendants.

He also spent time with children in the orphanage and inquired them about the facilities being provided to them.

Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) arranged special arrangements for more than 40 Palestinian students who arrived to complete their medical studies.

RMU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Umer spent time with the students and RMU students brought special food for their Palestinian fellows so that they feel at home.
